Leicester Arts and Museums are an Artsmark Partner. We can support schools on an Artsmark journey to encourage creativity, participation and enquiry through our provision of learning resources and Active Learning Workshops.
At Leicester Museums we offer a unique experience to include:
• Inspiring Active Learning Workshops which focus on our permanent collections.
• Self-guided resources such as discussion cards, prompt cards and activity sheets for our permanent galleries.
• A stimulating learning environment for self-guided visits.
Active Learning Workshops (Key Stages 1 to 4) focus on our permanent collection to complement work in the classroom and help meet the requirements of the National Curriculum.
We offer:
• Access to original objects, paintings and sculptures.
• Opportunities to handle the ‘real thing’.
• Stimulating, challenging activities led by qualified and experienced teachers.
• Supporting information sent to all schools on confirmation of booking.
• All teaching materials used in the workshops.
Whatever the topic, we will help to bring it to life – dinosaurs, Egyptian mummies, Victorian paintings and giant beam engines – you will find all these and more in our museums, along with staff who will help you to plan your visit.
If you are interested in making a booking or have any questions, please contact us on 0116 225 4910 or learning@leicester.gov.uk

Abbey Pumping Station
Abbey Pumping Station was built in 1861 as a pump house and the grand Victorian building and beautifully decorated beam engines were the cause of great civic pride.
At Key Stage 2 the ‘beaming with health’ Active Learning Session explores disease and sanitation during Victorian times. The Victorian washday workshop uses real objects and costume to compliment the session.
Activity packs are available for teachers who wish to bring groups for a self-led visit. The resource is designed to encourage schools to focus their visit on specific themes to support, investigation and discussion.
